The ambient cookbook on the other hand is out of print and all distributors and most shops are out so id value it at about $40 USD.. and its an awesome set of discs... Namlook, Lakoff and Igr Ver. Not sure what I was expecting here. Because of the use of the word 'composer' I was kind of expecting some kind of classical/ambient variant. However, what we get is something indefinably cooler with occaisional alien-like vocals twisted around subtle electronica and lush atmospheres. There are a large range of styles with several tracks standing out as just plain beautiful - one in particular where a father talks to his young child about the enormity of the universe. Musika i Slowa sets an almost musichall vocal stab against electro luch bleeps and an upbeat moody piano line that gets you tapping your feet. Indigo sounds like Aphex Twin as he used to with flutes overlaying a sweeping orchestral style that is truly uplifting and fresh. The fact that there are twelve tracks is appealing since it gets us away from the older formulas of winding and sometimes monotonous long pieces. It also squeezes more ideas out of the 'composers' - I wonder if we will hear some more from these people? cheers rA - --- + To post: ; to mail a person: + To unsubscribe: "unsubscribe" to + Online info at: www.faxlabel.com www.hyperreal.org/fax www.2350.org ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Apr 99 09:23:53 +1100 From: Andre Subject: (fax) Fax + 49-69/450464 News Release worldwide 12/04/1999 on Ambient World AW 016 =93Sultan=B3 (Pete Namlook & Burhan =D6=E7al) Pete Namlook collaborated with the incredible Turkish musician Burhan = =D6=E7al whose roots lie in the classical music of his country. Besides all traditional percussion instruments he also plays stringed = instruments like Ud, Tanbur and Saz. Sometimes he sings with his = expressive voice on top or recites medieval Turkish poetry. With his "Istanbul Oriental Ensemble" he won the "Deutschen = Schallplattenpreis". In collaboration with Pete Namlook a new and very special combination = of beatoriented deep ambient, electronic beats and the powerful music = of the Ottoman empire developed and formed a new style and spirit = back in 1996. Meanwhile this record has achieved =B3cult-status=B3 = and therefore we found it was necessary to reissue this masterpiece.
