The outcome? Well, let's just say I've uprated it from a 7 to an 8 on my personal Fax Rating Guide - that's an upgrade from damn good to damn great. Difficult to say whether it's actually better than 2 though, it's so different ... much more rhythmic and, yeah, I suppose much more melancholy. Shades is a great series, maybe the most consistent on the main label? I reckon No.3 will be well sought after this time next year. Funny isn't it ... everyone raves about the first two Shades and the first two Broadways ("landmarks" etc) whilst the final installments are seldom mentioned. I actually think Broadway 3 is miles better than the first two! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 09:35:10 +0000 From: "Paul Milligan" Subject: (fax) Thought I'd get in first ... ... before someone else spots my error. Shades is of course on the World label not PK. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 21:04:42 +1100 From: "andre@faxlabel.com" Subject: (fax) Re: Shades (series) + 2350 Broadway Reissue > Difficult to say whether it's actually better than 2 though, > it's so different ... much more rhythmic and, yeah, I > suppose much more melancholy. i think i like 3 more as the mood that it sets is more dark/sinister/evil/sad shades 2 is almost positive.. which im rarely in the mood for! much less dramatic.. but i will listen to it again after writing this! I actually think > Broadway 3 is miles better than the first two! > agreed, but Broadway 3 is 4 excerts from seperate live james crammed on one CD where as 2350#2 is two seperate hour + journeys, 2350#3 is 4x15 minute journeys so its kinda more sound in less time.. FAX NEWS: ive just finished the artwork for Silence 1 & Silence 2 reissued on Ambient World + Dreamfish.. next week im doing the Art for a Dreamfish 2 reissue + a 2350 Broadway Reissue juicy blasts from the past to kick off 2001 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 09:59:34 +0000 From: "Paul Milligan" Subject: (fax) Re: Shades (series) + Reissues >shades 2 is almost positive.. which im rarely in the mood for! >much less dramatic.. Yeah, I always think - mist coming in off the sea, very early (before humans get up!) on a Summer's morning. God, I sound like a right sop. Cue abusive responses. >where as 2350#2 is two seperate hour + journeys, 2350#3 is 4x15 minute >journeys so its kinda more sound in less time.. Can I re-interpret your explanation as "quality, always before quantity"? Go on, please! >ive just finished the artwork for Silence 1 & Silence 2 reissued on Ambient >World + Dreamfish.. next week im doing the Art for a Dreamfish 2 reissue + a >2350 Broadway Reissue Hold on!!!! ... Silence 2 is already on AW. Is this a re-packaged reisssue of a re-packaged reissue then? Ditto 2350 Broadway! And hey ... ... you can't be serious - they're reissuing the exceedingly mediocre Dreamfish 2. What about Datacide 2 for heaven's sake? Fax goes crazy in 2001! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 10:40:21 -0000 From: Edward Jones Subject: RE: (fax) Re: Shades (series) + Reissues Agreed on Dreamfish 2. Pete will end up with loads of those left in his attic, I reckon. Worthy resissues for me would be: Organic Cloud Waiting For Snow The Fires of Ork (even the Apollo reissue is hard to get these days) Replugged Hemisphere Oh, and not forgetting the mighty and sadly missed Namlook III, of course (and Pete should make sure his daughter gets the royalties this time - credit where it's due!). ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 09:49:16 -0500 From: "Mister Beefy" Subject: (fax) bi-annual whine I'm still looking for copies of both Bill Laswell: Outland 1 Bill Laswell: Outer Dark Any help is appreciated. trade list mrbeefy.boognish.com/materials.html _________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE zombieworld.com Email account at... http://www.evilemail.com zombieworld.com - The dead come back to life, just for you. _________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 03:30:31 +1100 From: "andre@faxlabel.com" Subject: Re: (fax) Re: Shades (series) + Reissues > > Oh, and not forgetting the mighty and sadly missed Namlook III, of course > (and Pete should make sure his daughter gets the royalties this time - > credit where it's due!). > damming stuff. maybe you should do another online vote gizmo.. wasnt it pressure from people online that made him reissue Ambiant Otaku?? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 16:30:07 +0000 From: "Paul Milligan" Subject: (fax) Fabulous trade (shameless promotion!) Non-Fax I know but, it should interest Faxheads: With less than a dozen titles scoring more votes on the "Recommended Ambient Listening" list than this slice of painstaking assembled musical history, LIFEFORMS by Future Sound Of London is, arguably, the best piece of ambient techno ever committed to compact disc. A 2-hour 2-CD set which has so far garnished 45 reviews on Amazon.com ... almost all salivating with praise! If you don't own (or, haven't heard) this one yet, shame on you. My (spare) copy is in mint condition, naturally. I'm after a copy of POP by Gas ... it's still in print so I guess there's plenty out there. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 12:55:35 -0500 (EST) From: Warren Lapham Subject: Re: (fax) Re: Shades (series) + 2350 Broadway Reissue On Fri, 12 Jan 2001, andre@faxlabel.com wrote: > ive just finished the artwork for Silence 1 & Silence 2 reissued on Ambient > World + Dreamfish.. next week im doing the Art for a Dreamfish 2 reissue + a > 2350 Broadway Reissue which Silence 2 will it be? the original: or the first AW reissue (which is identical to the Insinct/FAX USA version): the original has the 23-minute version of "Heaven," while the reissue has the 7-minute version of "Heaven," plus an additional track "What is Time?". very interesting way to start the year. i'd love to see some new titles, myself. maybe even a SubLabel or World release... - -w. - -- Warren Lapham laps@2350.org FAXlabel reviews : http://www.2350.org/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 15:00:13 -0600 (CST) From: Phonaut Subject: (fax) SemutaMusicXradiotonite - -sorry, i know some folks will receive several copies of this post!- well friends, the SemutaMusic/ETC segment of streetbeat hosted by myself and partner phifty has been generously upgraded to a full 3 hours each show as of last week. tonight, a good deal of brand new tunes from a broad spectrum of beat-oriented + textural ambience artists. more info from http://i.am/phonaut SemutaMusic Episode X: Jan.12, 2001 featuring music from- Shuttle358 : Frame : 12k various artists : 12k1008 : 12k Shpongle : Divine Moments of Truth remix EP : Twisted Coil : Musick to Play in the Dark vol.2 : Graal Atom : Bund Deutscher Programmierer : Rather Interesting various artists : Austral : Ruta5 Dandy Jack + Victor Sol : Xjacks : Faxlabel Biosphere + Namlook : the Fires of Ork 2 : Faxlabel Daniel Pemberton + C.U.E. : Enhanced Environments : Subversal various artists : Ambient01@Hyperreal.org : www.aquafm.com H.I.A. + Biosphere : Polar Sequences : Beyond Deep Chord : 01-06 CD : Deep Chord Substance : Session Elements : Chain Reaction Senking : Ping/Thaw : Karaoke Kalk and much more...
