Ozoona : Namlook with Rob Gordon - warm, infectious & somewhat unique (previous offers need not reapply). Apart from Inoue's Slow & Low, my wants include the four emit comps : 0094 / 2296 / 1197 / Beat Exploration. For my "out-of-prints" wants I'll also bundle in a cdr of one of the mega rare Fax classics - IF or IF2 - incl. quality artwork. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 16:58:57 +0000 From: "Paul Milligan" Subject: (fax) A Rather Interesting question I have to admit I was very unimpressed when I got the RI sampler "Real Intelligence II" a few months back but, I've recently picked up Datacide's "Flowerhead" and now I'm very, very impressed. If "Datacide 2" is anything like as good then it should really have been the next reissue on Ambient World IMO, not "Dreamfish 2" (weird decision). Come on Pete. Given that Atom (Heart) outputs extremely erratic quality stuff can anyone suggest the best RI title to investigate next or, should I be looking to Inoue's off-Fax stuff first? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 12:35:26 -0500 From: "{`JACKTHETAB`}" Subject: (fax) FAX: LIMELIGHT anyone have this disc and would be willing to sell/trade? jackthetab i think therefore i ambient #####\ _ /##### #( )# | _( )__ | #( )# ##### | /_woof/ | ##### #" "# | ___m/I_ /_____ | #" "# # O # |____#-x.\ /++m\ /.x-#____| # O # #m.m# | /" \ ///###\\\ / "\ | #m.m# #####/ ######/ \###### \##### /_________________TRIBAL________________\ http://www.superior.net/~zothboy si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 12:43:25 -0500 (EST) From: Stewart Fritz Subject: Re: (fax) A Rather Interesting question On Tue, 30 Jan 2001, Paul Milligan wrote: > Given that Atom (Heart) outputs extremely erratic quality stuff > can anyone suggest the best RI title to investigate next or, should > I be looking to Inoue's off-Fax stuff first? Inoue's off-Fax stuff is a mixed bag, to say the least.(Noah will probably have an embolism over me saying so, though. ;)) I've found most of it to be not nearly as enjoyable as the Fax releses...especially "Waterloo Terminal", which I found to be a thouroghly obnoxious glitch-fest. Noisy, abrasive, and pretty hard to get into. "World Reciever", if i remember right, was a lot of environmental recordings and also not quite as interesting. The HAT recordings are very good, if you can get a hold of them which is VERY difficult these days. Best RI release to check out(most accessible, in my opinion) is Fonosandwich, or maybe Dropshadow Disease. Naturalist, Brown and Mono(tm) are also very good, but require a little more work on the listener's part. - --s2 - -- stewart fritz...... fax +49-69/450464 reviews... http://www.2350.org/ welcome to the electronic music center ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 19:23:00 +0100 (CET) From: Philippe Vannerem Subject: Re: (fax) A Rather Interesting question > > Given that Atom (Heart) outputs extremely erratic quality stuff > can anyone suggest the best RI title to investigate next or, should > I be looking to Inoue's off-Fax stuff first? off-Fax Inoue for very experimental ears only... "Brown" on RI comes very recommended. But beware, there is little connection with a release like Dreamfish. No floating ambient, just very nice inventive electronic playfulness. Datacide II is not at all like Flowerhead. Flowerhead is the better one, IMO. The very first Datacide on POD has some very abrasive nosebleed techno, but also some very choice ambience in places. - - Brad - ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul Milligan To: Sent: Tuesday, January 30, 2001 11:58 AM Subject: (fax) A Rather Interesting question > I have to admit I was very unimpressed when I got the RI sampler > "Real Intelligence II" a few months back but, I've recently picked > up Datacide's "Flowerhead" and now I'm very, very impressed. > > If "Datacide 2" is anything like as good then it should really have > been the next reissue on Ambient World IMO, not "Dreamfish 2" > (weird decision). "World Receiver", if i remember right, was a lot of environmental recordings and also not quite as interesting... All, No problem with anyone's opinion, I have one too. I do disagree with the assessment of World Receiver - I find this complex, mellow, soothing and rewarding to repeated listening. A collage of environmental and electronic sound woven together like nobody I've ever heard of. (Have you heard of something liek this before - let me know!) I still hear new sounds on this and it's been on heavy, heavy rotation in my house (my wife is probably sick of it by now). No music has hit me as hard except for Pet Sounds, Peter Gabriel 3 and On Land. But that's my opinion, I could be wrong... I would suggest if you want music in an ambient vein from atom, you will have to go back to the earlier (and hard but not impossible to find) RI releases. CDs such as B2, Semi-acoustic Nature and Interactive Music will probably be a hit with you Paul. My favorite solo Atom release on RI is Dots. Very dreamy ambient. Unfortunately it is rather hard to get ahold of now, as it is way out of print. Most of his other material on RI is much more beat oriented in the quirky style he has become known for. Masters of Psychedelic Ambiance is great if you can get it. It sounds like an experimental version of Flowerhead without any of the loungy stuff. As for Tetsu's solo stuff off Fax, World Receiver is excellent. It sounds like a perfect combination of the mellow sound of Ambiant Otaku and the more experimental sound of Slow and Low. It's kind of the culmination of his ambient sound. Easily stands up with Organic Cloud and Ambiant Otaku. Also really good is his second collaboration with Jonah Sharp, "Instant Replay" on EMI Electrola. It's more of a finished album than Electroharmonix, less ambient noodling, more focused tracks. -David ------------------------------ End of faxlist-digest V2001 #16 ******************************* --- + To post: ; to mail a person: + To unsubscribe: "unsubscribe" to + Online info at: www.faxlabel.com www.hyperreal.org/fax www.2350.org
