Guilty as charged ... and rue the day the expectation dies. >... don't you think Namlook (who released the previous 3) would recognise >if his (ie. Reeves) new stuff was of calibre and release it accordingly? No, not necessarily. I was actually using Reeves new work as an example (Starless Space is awesome, Otras 1+2 are only impressive!) the point being that I do not automatically accept that Namlook's only criteria for releasing music in 2001 is the music itself, AS IT ONCE WAS. My point is that Fax music now seems to have become almost entirely Namlook music ... a trend which does not serve the audience imo. Oh and regarding em:t ... I agree entirely with Andre (an excellent ambient label) in fact I would go further. For me, em:t was the UK equivilent of Fax, both in terms of the nature of it's artist profile/release policy and the shear excellence of the music. Going belly up in 98 was a tragedy, although it's demise left us a catalogue of uniformly excellent, albeit increasingly difficult to get hold of, releases. (I have a couple of spares which I'll include on my next Fax trade list) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 23:27:46 +1100 From: "andre@faxlabel.com" Subject: (fax) looking for joel krueger apologies to the list for this, joel krueger please contact me regarding fax t-shirt. andre@faxlabel.com Australian distribution & mailorder for Fax + 49-69/450464 Germany http://www.hyperreal.org/fax/ http://www.2350.org fax email list - mailto:faxlist-request@2350.org ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 07:55:42 -0500 From: "Stephen Philips" Subject: Re: (fax) Expectations (...and em:t) > Oh and regarding em:t ... Perhaps I'm an outsider in this but I've never really understood the infatuation with em:t. I've heard most, if not all em:t CDs and I've never found much of their catalog particularly interesting with a few exceptions. Their music is nothing like Fax and most of it is just rather strange sounding to my ears, to much "singing". The only similarities I see with Fax is that most of their titles are out of print and impossible to find and back in 1995 when I was buying em:t CDs, they cost about as much as Fax, about $22 each.
