Very subtle bass beat. Very free floating. Unfortunately track two does not mix...but alas it starts off more upbeat. some nice ambient synths. The synth is rather simple, as the whole track is, but still remains chilled out and interesting. (kinda reminds me of a slowed down Boards Of Canada). Track three remains a little quirky at time. It has interesting spoken samples. Some uninspired beats, but they seem to fit nicely with the ambient qualities of the track. The beat almost sounds too old skool in the techno vain. Track four focuses less on the beat. Has some amazing synths, they are rather deep and dark. Less floating feeling. This must be where the snow (as the title suggests) is falling rather heavily. Track 5 and 6 also incorporate some nice samples...track seven comes back to a more basic beat, dark and sinister synths rumage the background. track eight follows in the same way as the last track. This track however seems to be more peppier. Interesting stereo effects...and of course a killer synth. I can see where all the talk about track 8 comes into play. Deff the best track. The beat is a slow slow version of drum and bass (I guess), and the dream like synth is rather somber and c**l. This track could go on forever and I would never tire of it. Track nine starts off with a beat, and slowly builds its way to something beautiful. Adds some very c**l echo effects...but no sooner do you start to enjoy it...it ends. Seems to be the problem with this cd... track 10 and 11 seem to be the longest tracks... both work nicely. Track 11 closes off the cd with some more amazing synths, but it quickly fades out. Another listen is required before I could actually rate this disc. positive points - -track 8 - -track 10 - -track 11 negative points - -the cd should be mixed to tie up loose ends - -tracks are too short in many cases - -seems to be inappropiately titled to me. I dont get the waiting feeling. It is a rather excellent CD, and is more developed than either "Urban Myth 1" or "Wireless", with glacial ambient chords adding to the mix of environmental noise that is typical of his work. I know he has a few copies of this left at the bargain price of US$10 (plus shipping), which is a definite bargain. Email him at rapozajo@wellsfargo.com for more details. I would finally like to posit the notion that many sublabel artists have done some of their finest work elsewhere. Cases in point: - - aforementioned Meloche CD (incidentally as anyone heard his "Distant Rituals" CD on Silent?) - - Spyra - Future of the Past (don't have "My Little Garden of Sounds" yet) - - David Reeves - Narcos - - Peter Benisch - Lindego (certainly more consistent than "Waiting For Snow" at least) - - Atom Heart (obviously!) - - David Moufang - Kunststoff The only exceptions I can think of are Jonah Sharp ("Sea Biscuit" is by far the finest Spacetime Continuum release) and Tetsu Inoue (his releases elsewhere border on the unlistenable and utterly self indulgent in my view). Anyone heard any non-Fax work by other sublabel artists or has conflicting views with my own? Edward, question, rather than a "conflicting view" ... Is Atom Heart's off-Fax stuff generally better? I agree Flowerhead is bliss but, I haven't heard anything else that's better than Jet Chambers 1 - 3. Coincidently, had JC3 on yesterday and it rocks! Did have Real Intelligence 2 a while back and that disappointed me, despite really wanting to get into RI. Paul btw - agree about Future Of The Past (even better than Sferics) but, My Little Garden was too twee imo. The have looong winters and when summertime comes it's not very long and warm - maybe they get a feeling that all they do during summers is basicly "Waiting For Snow"? Not mentioning those who live in the arctic circle when in winter there is constant darkness and three (or more) months long day in the summertime. This record gives me the impresion of suspension - something is coming... Actually it was the title that made me buy this cd. I knew nothing about Benisch, didn't know what to expect. This title turned on my imagination, I had a feeling that such title could hide a marvelous music - and it does! I can also attend The Track 8 Lovers Club - it's beautiful. greets, Leszek. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Mar 2001 13:19:12 +0000 From: "Paul Milligan" Subject: (fax) 2-for-1 Sale Anyone who can supply ONE TITLE from my list of wants can help themselves to TWO TITLES from the following selection, all of which are in perfect (ie. like new) condition:- Various - Em:t Beat Explorer (Instinct) Hywel Davies & Miasma - Natural Language (Em:t digipack) Higher Intelligence Agency & Pete Namlook - SHADO (Fax) Higher Intelligence Agency - Freefloater (Waveform) Deep Space Network & Dr Atmo - I.F. Others may have different opinions than me on this...but I think a great place to start with RI is "Fonosandwich". That's easily one of the most accessible, fun, and catchy (but still weird) Atom Heart releases. Also try "Dropshadow Disease", "Brown" or "Interactive Music" if you can find them. Stay away from "Naturalist", "DOS Tracks:)" and "Schnittstelle" until you're ready to move on to weirder stuff. :) as far as non-RI stuff goes, the Senor Coconut "German Dance" disc of Kraftwerk covers is a hoot, and amazingly programmed as well. "Microposessed" is dull and minimal. "Shellglove" is a mixed bag of subsonic weirdness, I'd put it near the middle. His first album "Ginger" I found to be fairly predictable, repetitive Detroit-styled techno. Not bad but not really that interesting. "G-Spot", on the other hand, is AMAZING. I find it very similar and comparable to Orbital's "brown" album. If you can get it, get the double disc with a live concert recording. since then, his releases have become hellish abrasive power-noise feasts...I like 'em, but they may not be your cup of tea.
