David Hodgson ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jun 2001 22:02:59 -0700 (PDT) From: wallace winfrey Subject: (fax) prophet-5 and alien community? so i've been doing some work recently with native instruments' virtual prophet-5, the pro-52, and i've noticed that a lot of the sounds seem remarkably familiar to what i've heard on the alien community releases, in particular, the 'space invaders' patch seems to sound alot like the opening swooshes. anyone else make this observation? - -- wallace winfrey wally@hyperreal.org "The machine will tour Europe this summer." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 09:35:44 +0100 From: "Paul Milligan" Subject: (fax) Wired (and a return to form?) Hmm, I think Wolfgang's praises (see 2350 review) are heaped too high - this is neither a 'profound' nor a 'super-exceptional' release yet, it does represent something of a return to form for Fax and for the Namlook/Move D collaboration effort. Yes, it is more complex (technically astute perhaps) than their previous efforts yet, it does not rank alongside their 97 release A Day In The Live ... which, for me, stands as one of Fax's best ever dozen or so releases. Wired doesn't come across as being as intuitive or, as downright funky; in fact I find it a touch sterile compared to ADITL. However, I've only listened twice thus far and it could grow on me, despite the fact that the opposite has been the case with many titles lately; so it could (*could*) just be the best thing on Fax for 3 years - ie. since Osman in 98. Nice cover art too (but, not as good as ADITL !) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 19:56:42 +1000 From: Andre Ruello Subject: (fax) SHADO for those that dont own this one i say get it now while its still available for the normal price.. i see this one going sky high in a few years.. andrez. I've never really heard a lot about this disc - I've just read the review and seen that it's been re-released on AW and was wondering what people's opinions were on it... I had this when it first came out -- but for some reason I sold it. After listening to some MP3's of this again, I'm at a loss to understand why I ever let it go in the first place. A brilliant release IMHO. I was hugely disappointed when it first came out. I find very few Fax discs "grow" on me--if it's not very impressive upon first listen, chances are it won't be on the twenty-fifth either. That disc needed more atmospheric space in it, like track two. IMO there were too many cheesy drum machines and percussive weirdness going on. But it is definitely better than SHADO 2 by a mile. - --Chris k. ------------------------------ End of faxlist-digest V2001 #88 ******************************* --- + To post: ; to mail a person: + To unsubscribe: "unsubscribe" to + Online info at: www.faxlabel.com www.hyperreal.org/fax www.2350.org
