Elektrolux's my favourite label beside fax. They started releasing the "northern style" of downbeat and chillout here in germany. After some electro-releases (like Anthony Rother) they returned to the deep and groovy style. Elektrolux is very famous for their SpaceNight Project, shown every night on german television. They also release the SpaceNight-compilations (where also Pete's tracks can be found on from time to time). The best elektrolux projects/releases at the moment are (in my opinion): - - Soehngenetic (deep, chilly, fine) - - The Sushi Club (groovy !) - - Uenn / Rauschfaktor / Guardener - - Aural Float (of course ! The main project on Elektrolux by Gabriel Le Mar, Pascal FEOS and Alex Azary) Alltime Classics are: Full Moon Fashions - all releases Subtonal - Dark Distortions Cold - Strobelight Network (Blue Glass Remix by Sven Vaeth) Babel - B-Side the Code of B-Haviour Index ID - Schlafphase Very interesting (and special) releases: Syrinx 2600 - Docking -20s Supreme Particles - Supreme Particles Just check out their (excellent) website www.elektrolux.com , where you find audio files of all releases. They also have an onlinestore where I order all my elektrolux-releases ! Cheers Sven N.p.: Uenn - Delay (Elektrolux) ;) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Jan 2002 16:55:53 +0000 From: "Paul Milligan" Subject: (fax) Fine wines and vinegar Those who've been on this list a while may know that mine is one of several personal rating guides which appear on the Fax Facts section of Roy's excellent "Fax Galleria" web site...yeah, the one with all the polls on! Anyway, I just wanted to mention that it's updated again. The last update was only back in July 2001 - at which time I intended just to update annually. However, I've listened to so much Fax music in the past six months (!) that at least twenty five titles are re-rated and several new ones added - eg. I finally got hold of Datacide 2! Of course, my opinion is no more or less important than any other but, I like to think that what makes my guide possibly a little more relevant each time it is updated is I've lived with virtually all of these titles for (at least) several years now. Point here being, just like wine, some Fax titles seems to mature nicely with age ...whilst others don't. Only one title jumped significantly in my re-rating (Tetsu's Slow & Low) and only one dropped significantly (Namlook & Held). However, one notable trend was the fact that three quarters of the titles from the four year period '98 - '01 ended up with a 5 or a 6 rating ...which translates into a general lack of bummers, conversely offset by a general lack of gems. So, long gone are the days when just a few weeks separated the release of titles as marvellous as say Zenith and Cymatic Scan from those as mundane as Create and Music For Ballet. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2002 09:38:29 -0800 (PST) From: John Whitney Subject: Re: (fax) Fine wines and vinegar - --- Paul Milligan wrote: Roy's excellent "Fax > Galleria" web > site... Even if this is the case, you should be able to find some of them on shelves in various places. Without (hopefully) starting a +/- thread about experiences at GEMM, I would recommend trying various sellers there (GEMM is basically a clearing house for individual sellers. Results will vary accordingly) while keeping in mind that GEMM can indeed be a crap shoot. Even so, I have found many oop gems there at not unreasonable prices. Some sellers will post as though they have just about everything which was ever in print stocked and available (e.g., Rockhouse), but you're not charged until they ship - and GEMM will refund your $ *if* you go through them to make your purchase and something goes awry. I just got a refund last week for a 12" which arrived in pieces. GEMM lists well over 100 (2 pages) elektrolux items in their current database - including all 3 volumes of the Electro Codes samplers. You might also like the Elec.Inpho. stuff. Scroll down through all of the ones listed, compare prices and shipping costs (location, etc) as well as feedback ratings before you buy. Hi Leszek Well, as you can see from my guide I haven't heard this one - although I only rated the first SHADO a 6/10 and wasn't impressed as others are with either Freefloater or, even Polar Sequences!!! However, I do have that quite nice Inner Sense track on one of half a dozen self-compiled Fax compilations. Wouldn't say I was a "fan of beats" though... well, not as opposed to beatless. When it comes to beats on Fax my preference is more towards the trancey Sub Label releases from the likes of the Basalt Boys or, the Jet Chamber stuff...these are the Fax classics! In the past I have noted with interest that SHADO 2 pulled in serious votes on the "Best Releases of 1999" poll. Then again the competition wasn't up to much that year, was it? I mean, was it! Have you got a couple of hours! Firstly I'd say it's very difficult to define this release in any sort of general terms. The music is extremely diverse (some quite experimental) yet I think it holds together well. I couldn't really argue with the fact that there are a couple of tracks around the middle which you should probably programme to skip but, this is otherwise an excellent slice of Mr Sol...to rank up alongside his efforts on the outstanding ASA series and +N's Plane. Didn't really answer the question did I ... can you take it on trust? Well, how about...one of those releases that made the Sub Label the best label in the Fax stable, imo. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2002 06:48:14 -0600 From: "Heff-Ra" Subject: (fax) Silence is golden It's always interesting to read the 'mixed bag' concerning this series. I've always felt it to be the strongest, most consistent run the label has to offer. (Air certainly runs a close second) Even with the gentle disappointment that was volume IV, this collection remains quite stellar. (volume V is outstanding, btw) Something to remember when listening to volumes I & II: (especially for you 'new school' folk) When these records hit in the early '90s, deep chill was not quite as 'dime-a-dozen.' These records set a standard. A welcome break from the 'Orb-inspired' norm of that period... cheers, Heff-Ra _________________________________________________________ "Is Your life too taxing?
