Asking what kind of CD you would like to see is *a lot* different than "what would you like for a 10 year anniversary", which I think is how this topic was presented to the list. So this whole discussion about DVD's, books etc was pointless since he was not asking for those kind of ideas at all. Why wasn't this made clear from the start? I feel we have been going around in circles for no reason. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2002 20:00:55 -0500 (EST) From: Warren Lapham Subject: Re: (fax) unreleased material On Mon, 4 Feb 2002, Stephen Philips wrote: > > Just a fast note about the possibility of unreleased tracks surfacing. > > > > I told Herr Kuhlmann that people on the list were wondering about this. > > > > His reply was: "not many.. thats the domain of Klaus Schulze ;-)" > > > > So, again, like the book, I wouldn't count on it... > > > Regarding Mr. Namlook, did he ask what the fans wanted or not? Or are we supposed to be mind-readers? :-) "Not counting on" one of the suggestions is quite a different matter from "not counting on" all of them. (Those were my words, for the record, not his. And I don't think he meant it as a slight against KS.) And, to be quite frank, it was not clear to me if he wanted my opinion, mine and Stewart's, or that of the fans on the list. So it may not even have been his intention to even give himself the chance to jerk the whole list around. Furthermore, I asked him specifically about the Cycloid tracks making it onto a compilation CD, and he said that it wasn't possible and he didn't want to talk about it further. Which leads me to believe that material that has not been released, or has not been released on CD, may involve licensing or other legal issues. I'm not completely familiar with the contracts that FAX artists sign, but they may not give Namlook carte blanche to do whatever the hell he wants with all of the recordings, released or otherwise, in perpetuity. I could be mistaken, but I seem to recall that the FAX contracts gave Namlook the rights for 5 years. The bulk of the FAX catalog (ignoring the non-CD releases, even) was originally released at least 6 years ago. This is, of course, leaving out the issue of quality. Maybe he has some Namlook III outtakes lying around? :) I'd like to hear quality unreleased tracks, too, but if there aren't any good ones out there that he can release, then... (Besides, if he could release them easily, you'd think he'd want to -- it'd be a pretty fast and low-cost way of getting new material out, no?) All that aside, though, he was soliciting opinions, not demands...it's his show, after all, right? :) - -w. - -- Warren Lapham. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2002 17:17:33 -0800 From: "sanvara" Subject: Re: (fax) Namlook And the list > Argh. Ok so the *real* question is "What CD release would you like to see for the 10 year anniversary" To which I'd have to say in order of preference: 1. A CD of unreleased material from vinyl and any outtakes from previous recording sessions 2. A new Fax CD in a Dolby 5.1 mix. 3. Remixing some classic tracks from the 10 year Fax catalog. (I know this will likely never happen because Peter has said in the past he will never remix any material from any Fax CD) 4. Cookbook 2 (another best of compilation) Not that interesting since I have everything that would be on it but what else is left to suggest? 5. A new Fax CD. (Which is going to happen anyway). ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2002 23:08:56 -0500 From: "Stephen Philips" Subject: Re: (fax) Namlook And the list Thanks for the clarifications Warren and Andre.
