Yo.. I was ICQ chatting with Namlook the other day about the new Psychonavigation release. He was talking about how this new peice of software 'Ableton' LIVE enables him to almost truly have the pure laptop studio which he wants.. i was saying how the advent of software synths and the move from the traditional analog studio with a room full of gear to the 'men with boxes' world of dudes live on stage hunched over a laptop seems to have resulted in a drop in the quality of electronica (my opinion) and the advent of genres which to me are 95% CRAP e.g. glitch / clicks & cuts. anyway, I told namlook that i will mp3 some of the non fax electronica that i was listening to and that i thought was definitly worthy of an audience with his royal Faxness.. Im sure some people on this list also have suggestions of artists they'd like namlook to hear. i get the impression that he doesnt listen to much new electronica other than the stuff he is sent on promo.. So im calling listmembers to submit Artsits / tracks that you think are worthy and i will make a selection available to Pete in MP3.. who knows, maybe it could result in some of the dream collaborations that get thrown around! my list: Bola Shuttle.358 Mike Ink / Joerg Burger (GAS / Burger Ink) lo.rez / hi.rez / and.rez andre ruello - sansserifgrafik ph. 0414 611 635 - http://www.sansserif.com.au ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 18:02:36 -0500 (EST) From: Stewart Fritz Subject: Re: (fax) To play to Namlook.. Not many people (and very few really talented ones) can afford loads of expensive gear. > So im calling listmembers to submit Artsits / tracks that you think are > worthy and i will make a selection available to Pete in MP3.. Hi. already people have sent me lists of artists & tracks.. does anyone have any ideas on how a list could be compiled and displayed so that everyone can see whats there add new things... and that nothing falls thru the gaps of my email app? perhaps the 2350 webgods have a PHP solution?? cheers. I believe this has happened simply because the technology allows anyone to "make music". And of course, everyone doesn't have the talent to create good music. ;) But softsynths and such have helped me improve my craft for the better. It kinda erks me that some people look down on artists who write music only using computers. The computer is only a tool, same as using racks and racks of audio gear... so in perspective, what's the difference? I feel sort of egocentric to suggest myself, but I would be honoured to have Pete take a listen to my music. If others are interested, I'd love to hear what people think of my music. A music suggestion would be "Winter Embrace". I'm actually just putting the finishing touches on the 62-minute version tonight for a CD version. :) Thanks! - -Mike Carss http://www.departure-productions.com/goon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 17:00:10 -0800 From: Anthony Ballo Subject: RE: (fax) To play to Namlook.. I got a chuckle out of Reason when I first saw it. Hitting the TAB key flips the 'virtual rack' and you see all the wires dangling and the back of all the gear. Probably the only artist, other than his Royal Faxness, who combines traditional ambient music with techno/beat-oriented ambient music successfully. He also works with Vir Unis. "So im calling listmembers to submit Artsits / tracks that you think are worthy and i will make a selection available to Pete in MP3.." I think the first three tracks of "Autechre - Incunabula" are very very VERY nice, when played in sequence. However, that album goes downhill right after that. I'd personally love to see another Biosphere or Jonah Sharp collaboration with Pete, similar to "Substrata" or "Sea Biscuit" respectively. Suggest perhaps "Global Communication - 76:14"? It's a good album, but perhaps not Pete's style.
