I half-expected a questioning of KDM's own business handling of KS in that last comment; but when did he become the ex-manager? Mueller seemed to regard PK & KS's whole working arrangement with disdain, sending DAT tapes back & forth. Hey, that's how they preferred to create together. And they *did* perform live, energetically & with joy judging from DSOTM VIII. Maybe Klaus told Klaus to "Get Laust--Raus!!" When are we expecting those AW reissues of MOOG to come out? I missed out on V, which seems to be the overall favorite, according to the polls at FAX/RI Galleria. I think VI & VIII are a lot of fun. BTW, how is that LOW SPARK remaster, any extra takes? In my younger days, a "Low Spark" evening inevitably led to "Echoes" or maybe "Phaedra" . . . had to flip the vinyl every 22 minutes. OBSCURED BY CLOUDS is indeed an excellent, oft overlooked Pink Floyd album, released in 1972 between MEDDLE & DARK SIDE. It was the soundtrack to an obscure : - ) foreign film, "The Valley." The music & the compositions are very good, if not break-out material. Gilmour & Wright are the heavily featured players as the tracks plod along in medium-tempo Floyd fashion, with eyes half-closed. Slide that vinyl disc out of its sleeve (check out the groovy Harvest label; remind you of anything?) & listen to Side One, which is uniformly solid. Two crunchy instrumentals, followed by three well-crafted choons. "Childhood's End" & "Free Four" on Side Two are also stand-outs. Oh, it's fun to go exploring. Namlook and Klaus are pushing further into the new frontier with this one. Nice rhythm programming in track 1, very expansive drones in the second passage. What i like about DSM is that everytime a new one comes out, it usually combines phrasing and chords that reference older DSM releases but also offers some new aspect to combine with the familiar parts. Part 5, for instance, fuses those lovely synth textures much like those from the beatless parts of Phantom Heart Brother, but this time with nice gentle groove to push it along. The benefits of 'recycling' sounds in this fashion i think, is finding new musical combinations within the same sounds that work together. That said, it does also sound to me as if there's some new gear and/or patches involved, or new techniques with older gear. Who knows. It is on the mellow side, as previously mentioned, which is just fine with me... n/p np- DSOTM9 . . . . . . ..... . . . . . . If my understanding of the Schulze/Mueller relationship is correct then, apart from being friends, KDM is the 'publisher' of much of KS's work up until some time in the mid/late 90's. On the managerial side I think that was only in even earlier days. Of course KDM has released some of KS's stuff on his own label (notably the BIG box sets) and also 'publishes' the KS Circle, as well as 'managing' the official web site. Bear in mind that KS has *always* gone off into other areas (eg. as producer and collaborator) and these projects often did not directly involve KDM ... form KS's perspective the Moog series is effectively just another in a very very long line of ventures. The first time I ever heard of KS was way back in 76 when I bought the "GO" project on vinyl, but that was because I was into the other collaborators (!!!) - - Winwood, Shrieve and of course Stomu Yamashta, percussionist and early electro pioneer in his own right. Incidently, if anyone out there has a copy of the "GO LIVE FROM PARIS" release on CD I will swop it for *any* Fax disc ... and I do mean any! >Mueller seemed to regard PK & KS's whole working arrangement with disdain Yeah, I wouldn't even repeat here the terms he used to me about it. >BTW, how is that LOW SPARK remaster, any extra takes? It's crystal and there's an extra in the form of the extended version of Rock & Roll Stew which was only released in the US on a 45. Check out John Barleycorn too, even better with 4/5 bonus tracks including 3 which were originally earmarked for the 1970 live album which never quite made it into the shops. Of course there's a somewhat tenuous Fax link here - ie. Winwood = Yamashata = Schulze (see above). ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 May 2002 07:47:03 -0400 From: "Conlon, Timothy J" Subject: RE: (fax) Floyd / Moog connection Not intentional...just reciting the first line from "Free Four". > -----Original Message----- > From: Paul Milligan [SMTP:paulmilligan@georgiadesign.com] > Sent: Thursday, May 02, 2002 4:35 AM > To: faxlist@2350.org > Subject: Re: (fax) Floyd / Moog connection >=20 >=20 > >"The memories of a man in his old age...are the deeds of a man in his = prime." >=20 > Hey Tim, you've changed topic to early PK/PW releases! > --- > + To post: ; to mail a person: = > + To unsubscribe: "unsubscribe" to > + Online info at: www.hyperreal.org/fax www.2350.org ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 May 2002 13:27:55 +0100 From: "Paul Milligan" Subject: Re: (fax) Floyd / Moog connection >Not intentional...just reciting the first line from "Free Four". >>>"The memories of a man in his old age...are the deeds of a man in his prime." >> Hey Tim, you've changed topic to early PK/PW releases!
