To summarise comments from 3 sources thus far: typical Bio trademarks combine with classical samples, looped & minimal. Perhaps others who already possess it can elaborate further? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 09:51:59 +0100 From: Edward Jones Subject: RE: R: (fax) Biosphere Shenzou is really good. Had chance to do more justice to it. Sounds like distant chamber music heard underwater. Closer in sound to Substrata than Cirque. Subtle, yet strangely immediate in its appeal. In short, buy the damn thing! DISCLAIMER: The information in this message is confidential and may be legally privileged. It is intended solely for the addressee. The other two have moments but, for me, never really get out of second gear. Both VV II and VV III contain a drone track each which, whilst being good in themselves, feel a bit out of place to my ears in amongst more 'active' listening songs. I'd probably say if you're only looking for the best of Fax give them a miss but if you're looking for something to buy they're ok to put on once in a while. 5 or 6 out of 10 (depending on my mood !!). If you haven't already got it, check out Sferics by Spyra. Very good and better than Etherlands (which is patchy but good in places). Haven't heard Phonehead apart from soundbites on Emusic.com so I can't comment. The soundbites sounded good though. Paul, What exactly have you heard about the Biosphere album?? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 11:24:32 +0000 From: "Richard Hughes" Subject: Re: (fax) Virtual Vices series I remember I orignally bought VV1 having already got Phonehead which I thought was quite refreshing given some of the stuff coming from Fax (i think it was the first Sub-label release for over a year except Oskar Sala) at the time. Like Paul I thought it (VV1) was quite good the first time I listened to it, but like he said the novelty wore off after about the third or 4th listen. Think I can probably live without volumes II and III for the time being, however both Sferics and Etherlands I have never got round to purchasing, but maybe I should. Sferics is very consistent, whereas Etherlands sort of sounds like the tracks that didn't quite make it onto Sferics... the one exception being the quite superb 6 Miles South Of Hastings. > Phonehead ... soundbites sounded good Phonehead has got a couple of so-so tracks but, several stunners. I'd rank it up alongside Sferics. Of course, definitive Spyra can be found on Future Of The Past. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 May 2002 19:53:30 -0500 From: Mxyzptlk Subject: (fax) FA ebay Wechselspannung and a bunch more.
