FAX lovers-- I just *have* to share the excitement about my recent discovery of the amazing FAX inventory of mp3s available for download at EMusic. I'm sure this is old news to most everyone else here, but I am beside myself with joy! Ever have a dream where you finally had a hold of something (or somebody) of great personal value that you've yearned for & you couldn't believe your dumb luck at attaining said desirable(s) . . . only to awaken in the early light to realize the awful truth . . . Well, this is how I feel when I wake up my Mac each morning & check my iTunes playlists--now loaded with out-of-print FAX music, both the classic & the obscure . . . only I ain't dreaming!! Shall I hear Tetsu or Atom Heart or good old Herr Kuhlmann on this fine morning? DELTRAXX, anyone? A little hit of THE PUTNEY? I'm pretty new to the Faxlist, though I've been listening to Pete's wonderful cabal of electronic space dreamers since the first FAX USA discs appeared in '94-'95. As a PHAEDRA baby from the 70s, I'll never forget hearing AIR II or "Terasury" by SAD WORLD for the first time & feeling like I'd found my way back home to music that stimulated, awed & amazed me (BTW, what's with that spelling of "treasury"?). For a while in the mid-90s, FAX was sooooo available (even unavoidable) in all the downtown CD shops in NYC. But by 1998 or so I was down to one store (Other Music) & their supply (& demand, according to them) was spotty at best. Thank goodness for Dave @ Ear/Rational!! But this new twist . . . The early FAX comps, Fires of Ork I, Ambiant Otaku, Organic Cloud, 2350 Broadway, Waiting For Snow--there are so many fine titles here (though most directly involve Namlook & many excellent projects are not available). Still, there are over a hundred FAX titles to check out, the majority out of print--your only limit is your download speed & data storage. Ten dollars a month to subscribe to this service is like a joke--but don't let on--the Man will want all my files back!!
