For example, Mac OS X users who favor Omniweb are lot of luck. Opera users need not apply either. Sorry to be harsh. I'm especially intrigued by the female voice (naturally) that seems to be from a TV show (Twilight Zone?) or PKDick film scenario: "Every night--the same dream, the same strange planet . . . but, why? What are they trying to tell me?" I love the beginning of this track! Electronic waves gently lapping an echo-chamber shore--or are we breathing in our space helmets as we look around? We have company, so it's no beach made of sand. The sound of rigging & clanking "others" approach purposefully but fancifully, not exactly threatening, but definitely machines made by other machines, accompanied by a percussion loop right out of U2's "Zoo Station." The activity builds, the metal sprites dance about their power source/idol, winds begin to blow--or is that chanting? But it never becomes too dissonant or alienating, & that's just the first few minutes. At 4:10, a reassuring voice intones "the spirit of the Earth" in a comforting fashion, but his voice is soon swept away down the corridors of a vast enclosed space. Then comes our dreamer & the plot thickens . . . Long, episodic, trancey & light-heartedly haunting; loaded with voice snippets, breathing, chattering machines & an air of Orwell's 1984; slightly cheesy, cinematic mini-epic about man vs machine, freedom vs fascism, nature vs industry--but not to be taken too seriously, I think. "Toulin" is a 23-minute romp through societal sci-fi themes of the last fifty years, with the added knowledge that someone is watching us from outside. Will our heroine save civilization? Will "they" interfere? Will the machines have their way with humanity? It doesn't really matter--this is Namlook having fun. Great little spooky themes. The rest of the CD is enjoyable, too. But that voice sample--she's gettin' into *my* dreams! The Internet Movie Database says the full title is "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" (2001), so that would tie in with "the Spirit of the Earth." Very clever, Mr Smart. Good to see the FAX circle on this one--the yellow made me think of that ubiquitous smiley face, adding to my tongue-in-cheek interpretation of the music inside, however much that may be unintentional. Oh yeah, second out of three solo releases that year, not much to compare. But seriously, is it really that good? I reckon the first part to be a major flop for me (apart from "The Mystery" and "Light" maybe). Like "Music Hypnotizes" - really, really BAD german techno type. greets, Leszek. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 May 2002 12:35:19 +1000 From: "electroteque" Subject: RE: (fax) Fax Rarity to Trade yes electro harmonix is one of my fav and not like some cd's where half of the cd is good but you are keen to buy just for those tracks every track on this is good , sure in morphing cloud u gonna find repetition but it does move somewhere , its a slow starting track i luv long epics, i am looking for this one if anyone else is keen on selling but 50 US is a bit much being half way across the globe and being half its currency - -----Original Message----- From: owner-faxlist@2350.org [mailto:owner-faxlist@2350.org]On Behalf Of Paul Milligan Sent: Saturday, May 25, 2002 1:29 AM To: Corbin, Nick (CAP, EEF) Cc: faxlist@2350.org Subject: Re: (fax) Fax Rarity to Trade >> One mint copy of the '95 release - Electro Harmonix by Jonah Sharp >> & Tetsu Inoue (Fax Sub Label) >one of the *best* fax releases...
