This is a disc I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention but I think track 3, Blackbird Suite, is one of the better tunes I've heard on Fax. Not really an ambient album. I'd call it chilled-out techno. I have to agree with the reviwers on 2350.Org though - three good tracks followed by a fourth consisting of 11 minutes of noise (although this track wasn't as bad as I'd expected it to be). Non-Fax related - A while ago someone on this list recommended Far Away Trains Passing By by Ulrich Schnauss. I also got this at the same time as Ozoona and I'd just like agree with them. Not really like the Fax style. It's quite blissful and dreamy and very melodic. The overall sound kind of reminded me of OMD around the time of Organisation/Architecture & Morality (their best period IMO). Also worth checking out Our Noise by Hermann & Kleine. Liner notes say it was recorded mostly on Sundays. It certainly sounds like it. Kickboard Girl ep is good too. Incidentally - fast and friendly service from Playing By Ear - highly recommended. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 15:33:29 +0100 From: Richard Hughes Subject: RE: (fax) Ozoona Funnily enough I was on verge of posting re this disc myself. I picked it up also a couple of weeks ago and must have listened to it around a dozen times already (tracks 1-3 only of course :-)). Tracks 2 and 3 especially, whilst variations on a similar theme are I think outstanding. I agree that track 4 is pretty bad, but perhaps mariginally better when heard on headphones. The bass on tracks 2 & 3 should really be heard on speakers - a real wall shaker. - -----Original Message----- From: Peter Dunlop [mailto:Peter.Dunlop@marconi.com] Sent: 19 June 2002 16:01 To: faxlist@2350.org Subject: (fax) Ozoona plus Non-Fax Related I got Ozoona yesterday. Andre, I got a flyer from Joerg at CUE, there's an "Elektronik Sommerparty" in Essen, Germany on 10th August - not really too sure who's playing - maybe mail him to find out... More on the techno tip, but Jeff Mills and Laurent Garnier are up and coming at the Melweg club in Amsterdam www.melkweg.nl for details - this is a really nice club, i've been a few times (Namlook also played there twice - the performances featured on Namlook II and IX - Dutch Side of the Milky Way & The Gate to the Milky Way (melkweg means Milky Way in Dutch) - wish he'd come back soon!). Thought I read somewhere that Speedy J was due to play in either Rotterdam or Amsterdam - although that might have been and gone already - I'll try and find out (about that and others) and keep you posted.
