The "buy it now" option combined with a starting bid which matches that price is a commonly used method of selling at a fixed price. Ebay also features seller "stores" with items for sale - all at fixed prices. http://pages.ebay.com/storefronts/seller-landing.html jeff ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Mar 2003 01:19:56 EST From: Shellground@aol.com Subject: (fax) Slow & Low / eBay Still sitting there at 24 UK pounds with just a few hours to go ... However, I'll leave that > as an exercise for Joerg.) > Damon eBay have fixed price listings available. They are called "Fixed Price Listings". One can offer an item, not for auction, but for general sale: "fixed price"! http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fixed_price.html "Buyers can purchase your item or items without waiting, at the price you set." "There is no bidding and no auction-style listing; you're just offering one or more items for sale at a Buy It Now price." "If you qualify, you can sell multiple identical items in one listing. " Another available option is "Buy It Now". http://snurl.com/vs0 "When you see the Buy It Now icon next to a listing or see a Buy It Now price listed on an item page, you have a special opportunity to get that item right away without waiting for an online auction to end." So, if a seller opts to, they may offer the item for open auction, but with an available option to buy the item, as long as there are no bids yet, for a fixed price. The BuyItNow option is available to sellers for an additional 0.05 cents: five cents, US. Cheap. Generally, it is recommended that if one wants to receive more bids and sell their item for more money, a seller should list with a low opening bid price, like $1.00. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2510639338 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2510639869 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2510639477 Higher starting-priced items generally sell for less than do auctions that have low opening prices: generally lower opening prices are engineered to attract bidding wars. If wants to retail new FAX on ebay, it is not that hard to figure out how to list the item at a fair retail price and not lose money: maybe make a couple of bucks per item. 2-3 dollars profit on an item that one purchased wholesale for between $7 and $10 seems like a decent profit, for online sales. The object of such retail is not to make a ~killing~ on a single sale, but to have enough volume of sales to make a ~living~, maybe even a killing if the volume is high enough: if one is serving more individuals. =seek= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Mar 2003 19:24:56 -0600 From: The REAL Mxyzptlk Subject: (fax) Rother : Elixir of Life First spin through (well, a few tracks in) and I'm really liking this... jeff ------------------------------ End of faxlist-digest V2003 #42 ******************************* --- + To post: ; to mail a person: + To unsubscribe: "unsubscribe" to + Online info at: www.faxlabel.com www.hyperreal.org/fax www.2350.org
