Watch VH1 - fairly popular stuff - most of which is pretty lame...you'll see. I would like to see a sublabel classics MP3 disc. This is getting fairly obscure even among fax-heads and guaranteed to garner only about 2 votes or so. But a compilation of say Music for Films, +N Plane, Outer Dark, Datacide 2 and IF1 would be grand. Not to leave the lame out of this - I'm not a big fan of the trance early fax material - however an MP3 comp. of either the early compilations or a large chunk of the vinyls would be interesting too. Maybe call it pre-ambient leanings cookbook vol. 1. Maybe call > it pre-ambient leanings cookbook vol. 1. i think an MP3CD comp of a lot of the early vinyl fax stuff would be really cool to have. I would certainly buy one! I know it's old stuff, some of which hasn't aged so well in the last 10-12 years, but hey, as an interested Fax head I would listen to it ALL with interest. It's fascinating to see where artists have come from, to know those early roots, and just how much progress they've made over the years. No a whole lot different in concept from say, the Pre Fax release. noah / phonaut.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! This disc was already on the way to me when you made this comment, and as a big :z*f: fan it got me excited about receiving it. And boy you were spot on! The track-sections are all very much in that lofi drone style. This would fit right in on any number of :z*f: releases, as one of those long-form stretches of zoner drones which, at first listen, may appear superficial and longwinded. However, careful listening or a headphone session easily reveals signigicant depth and a sort of muted coagulation of sounds. Like a train in the distance, where the sound of something normally obnoxiously loud and abrasive is transformed into a gentle enveloping ambience as it travels over the countryside. Fans of Rapoon, or :z*f:'s Shadow, Thief of the Sun, Look Into Me, Shouting at the Ground, or Just An Illusion would certainly appreciate this Namlook release. Agreed on your other comment too, the Coil-esque sound. Approximates parts of Time Machines, ANS, or Queens of the Circulating Library in ways. Nice work Namlook. The cover graphics do a nice job of representing the sound too I thought, so cheers to Andre for accurate visuals. Here's a :zoviet*france: discography, in case anyone is interested. I haven't updated it in a couple years or so, but it's still accurate: http://music.hyperreal.org/artists/zoviet_france/zovdis.htm Check out the parallels in the cover layouts, BTW: http://pretentious.net/zoviet/releases/what.htm AND http://music.hyperreal.org/labels/fax/ Which brings me to my final point: when I click on the cover of Music for Urban Meditation on the main Fax page, it takes my browser to the 'press release' page for this CD, but the cover art is different. What's that all about? From another disc? Or an alternate cover that was almost used? noah / phonaut.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Here are the numbers of people who have signed up (through EAR/Rational...I don't know about other sources) for these potential reissues: Season's Greetings MP3-CD (35) Hearts of Space (21) Sequential (5) 2350 Broadway 2 (5) 2350 Broadway 3 (3) Only 100 are needed for MP3-CDs, so Season's Greetings is more than a third of the way there. But the rest are dismally far from the 250 needed. If you haven't signed up for any of these and want to, go to www.ear-rational.com and do a search on any of them, then you can order. Or, contact your favorite FAX reseller and tell them you want to order it, and if they don't already have a sign up list, ask them to start one. If you want this to happen, pound the Internet pavement and make it happen. Also, commit to buying multiple copies. You KNOW they'll be worth more than you paid once they sell out. Someone emailed me and said, essentially, it wasn't fair that Namlook was only going to reissue CDs where the money was guaranteed in advance, and that he should reissue the good ones on principle.
