On Air 4 (PK08/53) the track "Je Suis Triste et Seule Ici" there are what almost sound like choral-style vocal samples that also appear on Future Sound of London's "Cascade" and a few of their other tracks as I can recall. Does anyone know what this is & where it is from? It's across approximately the middle third of the track and then again the last quarter after the French Language samples (would try to give the time, but this is vinyl and I don't have a stop-watch handy ;). 2. On Polytime (PK08/140), the 'style' colour on the disc and back cover is purple/plum. Looking at the 'style sheet' on the front of one of my vinyl box sets and the fax page on hyperreal, there is no plum colured style - did Pete make one up just to cover off the highly-vaunted vibraphone-chill-jazz genre? Or worse still, do I have to take an interior design course to figure out which of the existing style colours end up making plum? ;) Any answers would be appreciated! cheers, Christian. np: Namlook/Berger "Polytime" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 07:04:33 -0800 (PST) From: Phonaut Subject: (fax) two questions -air - --- Christian von Ompteda wrote: > 1. Does anyone know what this is & where it is > from? Just to clarify, you're referring to the vinyl version of the Air 1 CD. I've always noticed this sound too. Since Cascade was released in late '93 (if i recall correctly), and that Air 12" came out in March of '93, i've always sort of suspected that FSOL sampled it right off the Fax release. The FSOL version sounds a bit pitched/sped up. It certainly wouldn't be out of the question, as FSOL used to play Fax 12"s (especially Sad World) all the time in their radio shows way back when, they were obviously fans themselves at least for a while. Of course, it's always possible that both Namlook & FSOL sampled it from some 3rd source. But Pete does credit a female vocalist on the CD, so I wonder if that sample is her. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but i figured i'd tell ya what i knew ;-) np: anthony rother (homemade comp of old 12"s) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! You're talking lots of work scanning there (and probably some programming changes). I doubt Warren has the time... but maybe you could volunteer? ;-) > Any Fax title that doesn't have > the traditional title-only information on the side-spine isn't of > interest to me. Like, for example, the new Steve Stoll CD says, "Steve > Stoll - Was Here" instead of just "Was Here." Peace. Lots of FAX releases fall into that category... some of them are quite good and you'll really be missing out. However, I do agree that PK should have settled on a more standardized naming convention. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 19:25:07 -0600 (CST) From: Trevor Cordes Subject: Re: (fax) unreleased vinyl? Maybe call > it pre-ambient leanings cookbook vol. 1. I've been wondering about that lately... how many tracks to date are still available vinyl-only? Being vinylphobic, I don't have any of those (nor have ever heard any), and from what I see on ebay, there are quite a few albums/tracks that never made it into any CD comps or album releases. Does anyone have a list of these tracks? An MP3 comp of those would be great for us completists. I'm guessing they mostly suck because otherwise they would have made it onto a comp or cookbook, but nonetheless it would be worth hearing. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 19:29:43 -0600 (CST) From: Trevor Cordes Subject: Re: (fax) two questions > 2. Polytime is a great underrated release IMHO. Lots of fun and groove. Great for the car. No tracks on it suck and the title track rocks. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 21:11:56 -0500 From: MuzikJunky Subject: Re: (fax) 2350 > You're talking lots of work scanning there (and probably some > programming changes). If you thought the Japanese language was hard, it's a piece of cake compared to programming! ;) Peace. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 19:33:44 -0800 (PST) From: Phonaut Subject: (fax) 2350 > I do agree that PK should have settled on a more > standardized naming convention. the one that bothers me the most is Dark Side of the Moog 2, which uses '2' instead of roman numeral 'II' like all other 8 discs in the series. i know it'll never happen, but i think it'd be cool if he actually did release a Dark Side of the Moog II CD sometime, only the hard-core collectors would realize that it's a different release from DSOTM2. Just so they'd all match up nicely... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance Tax Center - File online.
