In Germany, 08/15 is a synonym for "average"--a thing that everyone has / does--a German saying for "nothing special at all". So our products started with 08/16 (get it ?) and 08/15 was "Synthadelic" a persiflage on the hardcore/cheap as cheap can go sample .. mainly born from a joke and a main statement about FAX music.. it is NOT average ... not for the money but for the MUSIC itself in the first place. > 3. Why aren't the PW catalog numbers preceded by 08/ like the mains > and the subs? Because 08/ is a German joke and probably not understood by the rest of the world. Then we get people selling them on ebay thinking that it's OK. If the copies find their way into western hands then people might not know they have a bootleg and then attempt to resell on ebay and then you have a big mess. Their claim that they're too poor is invalid as tons of people in a western country could easily claim the same thing -- and in fact they do - -- to justify piracy. This is in part why the media companies do that whole DVD "region" thing... so they can price discriminate based on regional wealth -- charging the "rich" countries through the nose and giving it to the poor countries for fractions of the price. I bet they (the big companies) also do that with CD's (to a lesser extent). I doubt EMI or Sony is stupid enough to try to sell legit CD's in Russia, S.America or Africa for the same prices as in the USA. As Russia pulls out of its communist stupor and starts to build a real economy, they'll eventually be able to afford simple luxuries such as music. Might take 10-30 years... but that's life. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 05:50:52 -0500 (CDT) From: Trevor Cordes Subject: Re: (fax) Top fives x3 / Question On 9 Apr, Martin Jones wrote: > I haven't got all the releases yet, so this is just from those I > know...which leads me to another question, does anyone out there have every > single Fax release ever?? And some of the big spenders on ebay that have sprouted up recently appear to have snapped up enough to have a near complete collection also. Fern oscillates somewhere between ambient and minimalpop techno: warm and bubbly, without big frills or the pathos of ambient dub. The 16 tracks on the CD invite you on a journey and take you for a ride into a surreal world full of beautiful images and memories. The first acoustic rays of winter sun tickle your ears and nose. If you associate vast landscapes, icy mountains and deep deep glacial crevasses, that is exactly the effect this recording desires ... as is so often the case when the word ambient is used -- but this time it bears the clearly audible distinctive mark of Saasfee*. Floating ups and downs, not pushy and not too far away. Never kitschy, with just the slightest amount of fragile melody. Sporadically Mt. Fern uses chords and minimal instrumentation but doesn't drift into clicks and cuts. The tracks range from euphorical and uplifting to the sounds of an icy dawn." to order & see the latest list contact ...David Hodgson ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 05:59:03 -0700 From: "sanvara" Subject: Re: (fax) Top fives x3 / Question > On 9 Apr, Martin Jones wrote: > > I haven't got all the releases yet, so this is just from those I > > know...which leads me to another question, does anyone out there have every > > single Fax release ever?? > > I'm 4 titles away! I have had a complete collection of the CD's for a few years now. I never paid more than regular prices and never bought a Fax CD on Ebay. I also have about 40 of the vinyl 12"s and am missing a few of those. I wonder if ayone has a complete CD and vinyl collection? I probably will not try and track those remaining vinyl. Not motivated enough to do so but if they fall in my lap I'll pick them up. I was lucky enough to get in early. If I was starting now I wouldn't even try. Too expensive and too time consuming. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 06:07:16 -0700 From: "sanvara" Subject: Re: (fax) Top fives x3 / Question > I have had a complete collection of the CD's for a few years now. I just did a rough count. I got two of the Fax boxsets and those really boosted my vinyl collection numbers. I would bet someone on this list has me beat though. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 09:14:50 -0400 From: theREALmxyzptlk Subject: Re: (fax) Top fives x3 / Question > > I have had a complete collection of the CD's for a few years now. I've said it once (and I'm aware that this post doesn't really address this issue and I'm not being contentious) and I'll say it again: For every outrageous price you see on ebay, there are 20 which end far under cost and wind up being quite good deals even after paying postage. Of course, the more collectible the item, the less chance of finding one which hasn't enormous bids on it. It happens. jeff ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 17:49:32 +0200 From: "matucana" Subject: Re: (fax) Top fives x3 Hi all, > What are your top five releases on each of the three Fax labels...I'm still > thinking about mine :-) mine are: PK: Kooler Dark side of the moog 9 Namlook VII Namlook V PS: Ambiant Otaku ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 17:53:17 +0200 From: "matucana" Subject: (fax) Top fives x3 Hi all, sorry, hit the wrong button... > What are your top five releases on each of the three Fax labels...I'm > still thinking about mine :-) mine are: PK: Kooler Dark side of the moog 9 Namlook VII Namlook V New organic life PS: Zenith Ambiant Otaku Vrs-Mbnt-Pcs 9598 II Shellground Otras 2 PW: Fires of ork I From within 62 Eulengasse Spring Dreamfish 2 Hellmuth ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 12:57:12 -0600 From: "Dave @ Fax Label USA" Subject: Re: (fax) 2350 has slowed to 350 On Apr 9, 2004, at 1:15 PM, Brian wrote: > No matter what, it's an invaluable resource. Amir Abadi aka Dr Atmo is the veteran of the German techno and ambient scenes of the early '90's, who teamed up with Pete Namlook for the classic Silence release of 1992. Paul Brtschitsch is of a more recent generation of German techno producers interested in the minimalist side of things, who with Andre Galuzzi formed Taksi the label and group (with releases on the Plus 8 and Force Inc labels). Change Your Life changes things up for the two producers, who produce dubby slow groove tracks for a series of voices, beginning with famed American singer Julee Cruise (on the opening cut "Everyday"). Other guests included Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan, who talks candidly about stardom in "Rockstar" and the much-sampled Nina Simone in the ironically-titled "Stop Taking." Two German singers and a narrator from a Derek Jarman movie also participate, and despite these diverse inputs the sequence has a consistent, hypnotizing flow, perfect for late night chilling sessions.
