Interesting take, Greg. I respect your opinion. I've got about 110 TD releases, bootlegs, soundtracks, etc... In my opinion, lots of FAX label releases are obviously inspired by TD, and of course the DSOTM series is very TD-ish, what with Klaus Schulze participating. Anthony Rother uses the same techniques, too... The incorporation of rhythm using something other than a drum is very German. Keep in mind that if it weren't for TD, RMI and Redshift and UtD wouldn't exist per se. :) Has anyone on here heard Michael Hoenig's Departures from a Northern Wasteland? I think that's one of the best German synth sequencer excursions ever released. There's nothing better than driving on the freeway at a good 90mph blasting that on the Harman Kardon system in my Bimmer =D Absolutely astounding =D Cheers! For anyone else looking for Early Water, you can purchase it at http://www.groove.nl. It's $18.95 US, with $3.95 shipping. I really love the older German synth work - it really was the foundation for a lot of the FAX music that's been created. Well, that's cool, cuz it leaves more for the rest of us =D No, really, to each his own. There's very little FAX I _don't_ like. I think because it runs the gamut of styles, it's really appealing. I get really anxious awaiting the next FAX release to hear what styles it uses... I like the upbeat stuff too... But I live for ambient music. =) On Wed, 20 Oct 2004, Greg wrote: > I like fax only for the more upbeat/melodic sutff(usually the > collaboations)...I have 10-15 fax titles that I really like, the rest I do > not...I have sold a LOT of the fax I have bought over the years, becasue of > the weak ambient/drone stuff.... - -=brian=- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Oct 2004 12:53:35 -0700 From: Rafael Almeria Subject: Re: (fax) New Recommendations? > Has anyone on here heard Michael Hoenig's Departures from a Northern > Wasteland? > I think that's one of the best German synth sequencer excursions ever > released. > There's nothing better than driving on the freeway at a good 90mph > blasting that > on the Harman Kardon system in my Bimmer =D Absolutely astounding =D Is Departures ambient or techno or something else? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Oct 2004 14:51:02 -0500 (CDT) From: brian@lists.frickster.net Subject: Re: (fax) New Recommendations? Um, it's more in the vein of an analogue sequencer excursion a la Tangerine Dream, 1975. It's 4 songs, the longest being 20-plus minutes, and the shortest being 4:30 or so. I'm not sure to which FAX release I'd liken it, but if you've heard Phaedra or Ricochet or Rubycon by Tangerine Dream, it's similar to that. But so much better. More complicated sequencing than Anthony Rother's Magic Diner... More like, say, Xangadix or Whole Traffic... I consider it one of the best German school synth releases ever. Today, nestled amongst the Yanni & John Tesh CDs, I found a sealed copy of the original issue of Tetsu Inoue's masterpiece, "Organic Cloud". I would love to trade it to someone for an item of similar rarity, so if you're interested, please get in touch with your trade lists. Will trade this straight up for "Orange", "Music to Films", or "Outer Dark" (good luck, right?). Others are possible as well, but these are probably my top choices. The FAX selections include Create, Putney 2, Alien Community 2, Outland 2 + 3, SHADO, New Composers Smart, Octopus 1, DSOTM 7 + 8, Silence 3, Psychonavigation 2 + 4, Shades of Orion 2. These are some of the extras I was holding to trade. I still am interested in trading or purchasing I.F. once I can get a second mortgage and a willing seller. I also have some Elektrolux CDs. http://makeashorterlink.com/?A37123A99 Sorry for the interuption. Might there be another collaboration with Mixmaster Morris? The Dreamfish series is my all-time favorite on FAX. Just did a search for FAX on ebay and saw that an original copy of Dreamfish is up for sale. This is one of the few original FAX CDs I'm missing, but I don't think I can afford to bid right now. Any chance this copy of Dreamfish will change hands for less than $100?!? HS Carl __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
