I'm really curious. At risk of simply repeating Micah's comment, I also do not highly regard CUE's work... none of it is dire but, I am indifferent to Create & Octopus series I'm afraid... mixed bags imo. Incidentally, I haven't seen Auraphage post here in at least two years. Create is pretty good but not the best work I've heard with CUE. That would be A New Consciousness (PW10). You should check that out Ilmar. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Jan 2005 11:51:09 +0000 From: "Jean-Marc Dekesel" Subject: (fax) FAX Box Collectors edition (12 inches) First of, Happy New Year to all you guys! The full list is... It's not one I play often, yet on my personal ratings scale it fares pretty well. I rated it the same as New Consc 1, which is also very similar. The slow 13 min build-up is interesting as background music and it is really sweet when the synths/melody starts coming in around 14 min. I think that was done beautifully. Up to where the big beat comes in (25 min) it's really quite pleasant and reminiscient of many of the Inoue collabs. However, I think the big beat after that keeps the album from being truly amazing. It's not that it's bad, it's just that I think it holds the album back somehow. Maybe it's too overpowering for the ambience beneath. Or maybe it starts feeling a little repetitive (by around 40 or 50 min). Like the other responses to your post, I'm not a huge CUE fan. However, his influences in this track are obvious and seem to accentuate the overall feel. I guess sometimes his contributions "work" and sometimes they don't. The only other CUE stuff I've at all liked is Octopus 2 and DADA. You should check those out. As for Create 2, I checked my rating and it's pretty low. I haven't reslistened to it yet, but will do so later. Not sure why the sequels on FAX often tend to be worse. Enjoy! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Jan 2005 23:51:56 +0100 From: "Ilmar Links" Subject: Re: (fax) Pete and Charles' Macro On 7 Jan, Trevor Cordes wrote: >I just gave it a good 2 days of listening to rethink it. I agree with you, my rating about ANC 1 is very high as wel. I listen to it in a very different way, however New Consc 1 has got 4 tracks it feels while listening as one track. That's why I can compare it on the one hand to Create. Otherwise the atmosphere of New Consc 1 is much more in the category of environmental, while Create gives me the feeling like as if I'm travelling through space. >The slow 13 min build-up is interesting as background music and it is >really sweet when the synths/melody starts coming in around 14 min. I remember I listened to it for the first time I didn't expect the big beat and it was overwhelming when Pete increased the intensity of his cosmic pads. Really amazing. Today I've heard it lots of times and it gets better each time I listen. Bit by bit you'll find out the true worth of it and you discover the beauty of it. The way it is meant to be. >Maybe it's too overpowering for the ambience beneath. Or maybe it starts >feeling a little repetitive (by around 40 or 50 min). It's very repetive especially at the end because of that it's even more important to give it much attention. >Like the other responses to your post, I'm not a huge CUE fan. The only other CUE stuff I've at all liked is Octopus 2 and >DADA. You should check those out. I own the original Octopus 2 and DADA with Jason Rivera as well. You're right Octopus 2 is really outstanding it's one of those PERFECT albums on the FAX label. I like the first and third in the Octopus serie too by the way. I don't listen DADA very much but it's a stormer as well. Roswell is just amazing. >As for Create 2, I checked my rating and it's pretty low. I haven't >reslistened to it yet, but will do so later. Not sure why the sequels >on FAX often tend to be worse. I incidentally listened to Create 2 yesterday. The influences of CUE in the second in the serie are much more obvious while Pete is in the background with his synths it's like they're trying to create an atmospheric urban landscape. For the most people it's too environmental I think. It doesn't say that much. For me it's 10/10 recommended daily intake and than you no why:) Only I can say relisten the disc and enjoy.
