CUE has had a few discs that are not great. I think the first Octopus has a sort of universal unappealing quality to it. I think the 2nd Octopus is brilliant, one of my favorite FAX. The 3rd one has moments, though not of the caliber of 2. Up until this recent thread, there has been little discussion of the Create discs. I've never been wild about either. It's been years since I've listened to them too...maybe it's time again. Both of the ANC discs are pretty solid if memory serves - 1 getting the pick over 2. As for other CUE discs - I thought Audio w/ Tetsu was quite good - a nice departure for Inoue at the time returning to the drifting ambient side as this one was released in the middle of his stylistic change from ambient to more experimental/glitch type recordings (Object and Organic Code, the Tzadik discs etc.). The collab. w/ Thermal (and others) called 'time out of mind' on Archipelago is one of CUE's strongest efforts. There is also a disc he did w/ Daniel Pemberton (Bedroom sublabel) that had all the makings on paper of being a great disc - but I just didn't think delivered. Again, it's been awhile since I've listened to it too.
